Reversible decisions allow correction, which can change how fast and flexibly you move without locking in long‑term consequences.
A reversible decision is one you can undo or adjust with limited cost, time, or damage. These decisions benefit from speed because acting quickly generates feedback that analysis alone would take much longer to approximate.
When teams delay reversible decisions, they often sacrifice real‑world learning in pursuit of a certainty that may never arrive in complex environments. Research on adaptive and self‑adaptive systems suggests that, when uncertainty is high and the cost of changing course is low, iterative experimentation can often outperform purely predictive planning.
Fast, reversible decisions generate information about what works and what does not. That information can improve later decisions far more efficiently than simply extending upfront analysis, especially in uncertain environments.
